Wednesday, May 20, 2020

On Tuesday Night at approximately 11:55 PM, Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a personal injury accident in the 5500 block of east US 20 in rural Scott Township. Upon arrival, deputies observed a 2010 Ford F-250 resting against a tree on the north side of the roadway.

The driver was identified as 21 year old Tanner J. Romine of Angola, IN. Romine was traveling east on US 20 around a curve when he overcorrected causing the vehicle to travel off of the north side of the roadway striking two trees before being ejected from the vehicle. Romine was transported to a Fort Wayne, IN area hospital by Samaritan helicopter for unknown injuries. Speed and Alcohol are believed to be a factor. Romine was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

US 20 was shut down for approximately one hour due to power lines in the roadway. At the time of the crash the roadway surface was dry. The crash still remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police.

Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Angola Fire Department, Metz Fire Department, Steuben County EMS, and the Samaritan Helicopter.
