LAGRANGE COUNTY, IN - An Angola woman was killed, and her daughter injured, when the car they were in lost control on the Indiana Toll Road in LaGrange County just after 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the Indiana State Police, Troopers responded to a reported vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) near the 112 mile marker. Troopers located a blue 2007 Toyota passenger vehicle, which rolled onto its passenger side in the median, with both the driver and passenger entrapped and unresponsive.

ISP Troopers Tim McCormick and Craig Woodcox were able to physically upright the vehicle onto its wheels and then extricated both occupants.
After extrication, the driver, identified as Theresa Devos, age 67 of Angola, remained unresponsive. Troopers immediately rendered CPR, however all life-saving measures attempted were unsuccessful. Devos died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained from the crash.

The injured passenger, who was identified as the driver's daughter, Marie Devos, age 39, also of Angola, was assisted by Toll Road maintenance workers until the arrival of EMS personnel. Marie Devos was then transported from the scene by Middlebury EMS to Elkhart General Hospital, reportedly with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators determined that Devos’s vehicle hydroplaned on the wet road surface while traveling westbound on the Toll Road. The vehicle veered off road and struck a guardrail. Reports indicate the initial collision sent the vehicle into a spin, forcing it to roll over, and then coming to rest on the passenger side in the grass median.

The crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information available for release at this time. All notifications have been made to the Devos family.

Assisted the Indiana State Police on scene was LaGrange Fire and EMS, Middlebury EMS, the LaGrange County Coroner, Toll Road Concessions Company, and Tom’s Towing Service.
