ECO Center Helps Sponsor Adopt-A-Tree On May 2nd
Friday, April 24, 2020

The Angola Tree Board will hold a drive-through Adopt-A-Tree Festival in the parking lot of the Angola Parks Department, 229 S. John St., Angola, on May 2.

The event is sponsored by Trine University’s Art Eberhardt Environmental and Community Outreach Center (ECO Center), the Herald Republican and the Parks Department in honor of the late Art Eberhardt, a longtime faculty member at Trine.

Four hundred oak saplings will be given away for free. Priority will be given to fifth-grade students from the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County. Parents of these students can pick up one tree per student from 11 a.m. to noon.

The remainder of the trees will be distributed from noon to 2 p.m.

The Adopt-A-Tree program has been conducted for decades, but moved to a drive-through format this year due to coronavirus concerns.

Eberhardt passed away March 6. He began teaching electrical engineering at what was then Tri-State College in 1952, and continued for almost 40 years. He spearheaded the first Earth Day celebration at the college in 1970, and helped organize the Adopt A Tree festival for more than 25 years.
