Friday, September 20, 2019

Stuben County Sheriff's Deputy, Zachary Rowlands was cleared of any wrongdoing after he discharged his issued firearm from an incident that happened last Friday.

The incident took place when the one year veteran approached a pick up truck driven by 21 year old Vincent Chilcote of Lagrange, who was wanted on multiple warrants out of three counties including Steuben.

When Rowlands tried to apprehend the suspect tried using his vehicle to run Rowlands over. Rowlands then discharged his weapon in fear for his life.

In a statement released by the Sheriff's office, the evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that Rowlands used "justifiable and reasonable force" against the offender. Chilcote has been charged with three new charges after the incident, including criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
